Travelling down the coast of Northern California you encounter charming fishing villages and towns. Inland, in North East California, lie the Cascade Mountains with their expanses of pine forests, alpine mountains and the great outdoors. Mystical Mount Shasta looms over the horizon with its distinctive snow-capped peak and vistas of moonlike lava beds and sulphur springs can be found at Lassen Volcanic National Park.
In the heart of Sierra Nevada Country lies the jewel of California, Yosemite and its lesser known but equally beautiful sisters Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. Jaw dropping scenery of thundering waterfalls and deep glacier carved valleys greets you as you are provided with a visual delight. Napa and Sonoma are the wine growing regions of California. Napa offers fertile orchards and vineyards providing superb Cabernet, Chardonnay and Zinfandel. Between the vibrant city of San Francisco and legendary Los Angeles lies Highway 1 which passes through panoramic view of crashing surf and cliffs. Colonies of noisy sea lions and seals perch on granite headlands as you weave your way down the coast towards Southern California. Charming towns decorate the coast including Monterey and Carmel with its pretty galleries and shops.
The Big Sur is one of the most dramatic stretches of coastline in the world. Encompassing diverse scenery and amazing flora and marine life these landscapes are breathtaking.
Southern California has a different feel. Sprawling Los Angeles is the land of celebrity bathed in sunshine with countless attractions. Beautiful beaches stretch for miles and it is a shopper’s paradise on Rodeo Drive, Macy’s and Bloomingdales. Visit theme parks in Anaheim such as Knotts Berry Farm and Disneyland™. Further south soak up the gorgeous climate of San Diego. With 70 miles of sandy beaches and one of the best climates in North America there are plenty of opportunities to surf, swim and sunbathe. Inland, world-famous San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld are among the varied attractions and it is possible to cross the border to Mexico for a day trip.
Further inland the sunny resort town of Palm Springs provides a luxurious oasis before the striking deserts of California envelope the landscape.
On the border of Nevada lies Death Valley which is surprisingly rich in wildlife in spite of the extreme heat in summer. Joshua Tree National Park further south provides a surreal landscape of twisted, spiky Joshua Trees.
